Allied Health Professional Development Fund (AHPDF) Update
The Minister of Health announced on January 28th that funding for the Allied Health Professional Development Fund (AHPDF) is being cut, effective March 2nd, 2020 (more information). The government's decision to cut funding for the AHPDF will hurt OAMRS members.
Since learning about the “winding down” of the AHPDF, we have been talking with public servants and politicians with the aim of having the funding restored.
The Minister's advisers seem to consider the issue closed. Our messaging is aimed at motivating the PC Caucus to pressure the Minister to review the decision. See the briefing to MPPs we have been using here. Rest assured, that myself and our government relations team is at Queen’s Park fighting for you. I also addressed the media yesterday with respect to the cancelling of the fund – click here.
We have identified the non-cabinet MPPs of the PC Caucus who are most likely to help deliver our message, and we are scheduling meetings to talk. Ten meetings have been scheduled to date, which is a good start. We are seeking as many meetings as possible in the first three weeks of February.
We have no guarantee of success, but we are fighting to reverse a decision that would hurt our members and other allied health professionals who access the fund.
