Using lived experience and current research from Ontario and Canada to describe the problems facing transgender clients when accessing health care services. Provide solutions and expand the knowledge of the transgender community for health care professionals to better help patients. Open and candid conversations about struggles that health care professionals are facing and some solution building.
- Equip medical professionals with current information on transgender identities
- Relate real life experiences of transgender and non-binary people in health care situations and help create solutions to problems that arise
- Expand health care professionals knowledge and understanding of the transgender community and their needs
- Provide current data and research on best practice for transgender patient care
Aiden Kivisto is an award-winning community leader in Thunder Bay, ON that has spent the last 10 years advocating and educating on behalf of the transgender community. He has also undergone his own transition and uses his story to educate youth, parents and workplaces about what it means to transition, the ups and downs of coming out, and accessing the health care system. He is a Leadership Thunder Bay graduate from 2017 and is currently pursuing his Social Work degree at Lakehead University.
