Heart Failure in 2021

Dr. Amelia Yip, MD, M.Sc

There have been many new advances in heart failure in the last few years. We will go through the large subgroups - heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFREF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF) as well as echo features specific to diagnoses.

Echo Assessment in Adults with CHD - "What you really need to Know"

Judy Jones, DMS, ARDMS

The presentation will provide information in what you need to know to detect important congenital heart defects.  Areas covered will include: what to look for when you find a dilated RV, what goes with dilated ascending aorta/root, when is VSD important and finally what to assess if you find an undiagnosed CC-TGA.

Pharmacological Stress Echocardiography - Dipyridamole (DIP)

Renato Morcerf, DMS, RDCS, RVT

The presentation will cover the comparison of stress echo (SE) modalities, a review of pathophysiological mechanisms, The Stressor – Dipyridamole (DIP), as well as indications and contraindications for SE and for DIP SE. Learn about safety and diagnostic criteria, accuracy and prognostic value. The presentation will also review pharmacological stress echo and core health standards as well as high-dose protocol methodologies, imaging and case studies.

Assessment of Prosthetic Valve Function

Dr. Heather Warren, MD, FRCPC

This presentation will provide attendees with an approach to the routine echocardiographic assessment of patients with prosthetic heart valves. In addition, attendees will learn how to understand normal echocardiographic findings of prosthetic heart valves and how to recognize important findings of prosthetic valve dysfunction.

Advances in Left Ventricular (LV) Quantification - Automated Function Imaging and Myocardial Work

Jacob Dewees, RDCS

Attendees will learn about the concept of strain in general terms and the concept of strain with regard to myocardium. Discussion will include how 2D Strain (speckle tracking) works and its advantages, and how strain data is acquired and displayed. Learn how to recognize normal and abnormal strain patterns, and become familiar with the variety of parametric data displays available. Attendees will also become familiar with published data evaluating strain to evaluate LV mechanics and function in the context of specific disease processes and therapies.
